laughter

His arm around her,
and her head on his chest.

They watch some funny guy on the screen.

They’re listening to comedy, but really
They listen to each other:
He listens to her laughter, and she, to his.

He strokes her arm,
And she wraps her arm around him.

Does he know that it feels like heaven to her?
Does she know that he doesn’t want to be
Anywhere else but here, with her?

His laughter fills her with joy.
Her laughter fills him with joy.

  1. Jami, This is like a candid photograph, a beautiful “seen”. So sweet and touching. I am enchanted by the idea of two people going to a comedy date together and listening to each other’s laughter, that’s what makes it so special not the funny guy (or girl) on stage. Ha HA!

  2. A beautiful and hopeful poem. Best days in our life. When two people need each other near.
“Does he know that it feels like heaven to her?
Does she know that he doesn’t want to be
Anywhere else but here, with her?”

  3. omg . . . I had that exact moment with a new female shipmate. We were leaning over the forward rail watching the porpoises dancing in front of the boat the way they love to do . . . we were both new to the commercial fishing game . . . both mesmerized . . . both giddy/laughing/screeching . . . I think we fell in love with with each other.

Thanks you just gave me a story to write . . . 🙂
